Our Services

Consultations & Check-ups
Regular Consultations and Health Check-ups are critical for all our patients, no matter how big or small the concern, to ensure our patients are living their best lives. With a focus on holistic preventative medicine, we endeavour to prevent and diagnose health concerns early, to minimise the impact on both your pet and yourself. We welcome New Patients & Clients, Second Opinion Consultations, and also perform complimentary Dental Health Checks at any time of the year.

Integrative Cancer Management
We understand how distressing a cancer diagnosis can be. Our integrative cancer management service is here to support pets and their families with compassionate, individualised care throughout the journey. We can utilise a wide range of therapies and medications to help improve quality of life, reduce pain, and keep your pet as comfortable as possible. This may include pain management, nutritional support, herbal medicine, palliative care, and other natural therapies, all tailored to your pet’s individual needs. We also work closely with Oncology Specialists to ensure our clients receive coordinated support and guidance every step of the way.

Titre Testing
As part of our Customised Vaccination Program, we offer Titre Testing onsite for the core vaccine viruses for dogs and cats. This allows our vets to assess the requirement for vaccination in those pets who may be at greater risk of adverse reactions to vaccines and to tailor a vaccine program to suit both you and your pet.

Desexing Surgeries
We desex male and female dogs, cats, rabbits, and male rats. There are many advantages to desexing your pet, both mentally and for their physical health, so if you are not going to breed from your pet we highly recommend desexing at a young age (less than one year old) when the procedure is less risky and so they can receive the maximum benefits. We also desex older animals at any time as long as they are otherwise healthy.

Radiology
With our state of the art digital radiology (x-ray) unit, we can gain invaluable diagnostic information both of bones and soft tissue structures (such as abdominal organs) at any time right on site and interpret it in real time. For complicated or pre-surgery orthopaedic radiographs we are also able to send the images to our Associated Veterinary Specialists for their expert advice at no additional charge.

Behaviour Management
We take a multifaceted approach to behaviour management with our patients, just as we would with our own mental health. Diet, physical health, daily routines, and living environments all impact the behaviour of our pets. For those pets who need additional support, our veterinarians are experienced in diagnosing and treating various behavioural issues, such as anxiety disorders, phobias, aggressive tendencies, and cognitive decline (dog & cat dementia).

Integrative Medicine
Dr Caroline, our resident Integrative Veterinarian, utilises additional holistic treatment options such as Western Herbal Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, specific nutrition plans, and supplements, to work synergistically with, or as a replacement for, conventional Western Veterinary Medicine. As part of your pet’s tailored holistic health care plan our team are always happy to discuss alternatives to mainstream medical options, and customise our care according to cutting edge research, integrative treatment options, and your own personal preferences.

Preventative Care
We vaccinate, microchip, and dispense parasite prevention medication to our patients according to a customised program to meet your pet’s individual needs, in order to minimise the number of medications required.

Routine & Advanced Dental Care
We perform many dental checks and dental procedures under anaesthetic every day. Some pets only require a clean & polish of their teeth, while others require removal of diseased painful teeth to make them more comfortable and to reduce the risk of root infections. All our dentals receive a pre-dental health check (including an optional blood test), a general anaesthetic, dental radiographs, intravenous fluid therapy, and long-lasting pain relief; local nerve blocks are used when teeth are removed.

Ultrasound
We perform daily ultrasounds with our onsite unit on many different parts of the body including the bladder, kidneys, liver, spleen, heart, lungs, adrenal glands, and gastrointestinal tracts, to allow for immediate diagnosis. We also are fortunate to have medicine specialist Dr Anna Dengate and her team at The Vet's North visit our hospital regularly to perform Specialist Ultrasounds for more complicated cases.

Surgery
All our veterinarians are experienced surgeons, and we perform a variety of routine surgeries, orthopaedic surgeries, abdominal surgeries, and lump removals every day. For those cases when a specialist is required we have visiting Surgical Specialist Dr Ross McGregor visit us frequently to perform complicated orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries onsite, including TPLO procedures on ruptured cruciate ligaments.

Greyhound Medicine
We see many Greyhounds at AVH and understand their unique requirements, and have been treating Greyhounds adopted through the GAP program for many years. From additional monitoring during anaesthetics, an in-depth knowledge of their unique blood test parameters and drug metabolism, and knowledge of breed predispositions to health concerns, you can rest assured your Greyhound is in experienced hands with us.
